Beavers April and Results of Fan Contest

April is pretty much a write-off at this point for the Beavers, three weeks in and the guys are only 8-10.  Notoriously slow starters, the Beavers didn't think it would be this much of a struggle to get going.  With Zach Hutchinson and Damien Yates only hitting .235 and .224 respectively these key players need to get going sooner rather than later.  Marcos Mesa has been sent down to AAA to find his swing, as he has options left.  Brought up to fill the void will be 3B Ronald Reardon who has been hitting decently in AAA, hitting at a .395 clip with a OPS of .916.

Some bright spots in the rotation are Jimmy Sanders who is overall a 2-1 with a 1.82 ERA, and Harvey Phillips has just had bad luck, going 0-2 with a 2.86 ERA.  Coming back to reality is J-Rod, in his last start against San Francisco he went 8 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K.  Highly touted within the Beavers organization Bobby Dunlap flopped on his face in his last 2 starts, and abruptly was sent down to AAA.  In an effort to get some consistency the Beavers hope SP Katsuhiko Takaki can fill somewhat of a void. Takaki has had decent minor league starts in the past, but no big league starts.

As stated before, April has not been a fun one for the fans in Baffin Island.  Being swept by LA, losing series to New Orleans, Los Cabos and splitting with New York is not what GM Aaron Blank wants to hear.  But one bright spot this opening month is ball-mashing 1B Charlie Murdock.

Murdock has been tearing the cover off the ball, hitting with a .359 AVG, .667 SLG, 7 HR and 14 RBI in April so far.

Looking into May, the Beavers have a decently tough schedule, going against Boston, Vista, Regina, Maui, New Orleans, Jacksonville, El Paso, Los Cabos, San Francisco and finish with Niagara Falls.
